I always think the big ending feels tacked on and is at odds with the uneasiness permeating throughout the film to that point. And it makes no sense either as we already know the demon can switch from body to body. So it would just jump into another host. That was a weakness with the original film too.
Oy oldin
Stephen Bastasch
Interesting idea, but...maybe jumping into another host isn't that easy for Pazuzu. After all, if he could do that, why not just take possession of Karras the moment the priest "dies"? Why rely on pipsqueak James Vennamun to do Pazuzu's bidding? That he had to choose a human - albeit dead - servant to carry out his vengeance could imply that direct repeated possession might not be so easy for the demon. So he uses substitutes.

There were a couple of things that didn’t make it into the movie, like the murdered priest in the confessional booth, seen holding his own severed head in his lap, and the Gemini Killer’s face rapidly morphing into different faces, including one of Hitler. Then there’s the brief conversation that did make it in the movie, where Kinderman mentions “the MacNeil kid” and you hear Regan’s laugh from the first movie. When the demon says “This time, you’re going to lose,” that was originally meant for Regan to say to Merrin.

Ah, yes, the one where Brad Dourif really _deserved_ an Academy Award super hard. No joke. You can make fun of his Child's Play/Chucky performances all night long, it's really easy and kind of "low blow" territory, but the dude seriously acted _the flying fuck_ out of this movie. It's a super memorable performance and it lands really well, even all these years later. He's just fucking _evil_ and it's amazing. Ya did good, Brad. The Academy might have overlooked ya, but I certainly didn't. One of the best villain performances of all time.

You can't be more wrong about The Exorcist not holding up. Sure people in 2000 were used to newer horror with "better" graphics, but at the end of the day when you go home and think about the story and the things not even in the movie, for example what's Regan doing in her room when the camera's not showing her, that scare me to this day.

Oh my God, you need to see "the Ninth Configuration". It's one of my favorite films of all time! Thank you so much for giving William Peter Blatty some love. I think once you see the Ninth Configuration, you'll see a lot of parallels to the directing style and the unusual Editing Styles you mentioned in the video. Also a lot of the same cast from The Exorcist 3 or in the Ninth Configuration.👌👍👍

I don't remember this one even being out. Thank you for this series. The host with the beard is quite affable.

David Fincher said this about Se7en as making the film like a "tiny genre movie, the kind of movie Friedkin might have made after The Exorcist (1973)."

that dream sequence still freaks me out, as does the confessional scene. what a creepy movie!

I think these guys are making me realize that III is a superior movie to I.

I think this was the best one.

I saw this probably 20 years ago and I absolutely loved it then and any chance I get to praise it I do. Fantastic video.

The Excorcist is extremely scary, but this one stays with you...it never leaves.

C Everett Koop surgeon General also made a cameo

Douriffs character isn't a demon. He's there Gemini killer c who was put to c death and the demon that was defeated c in the first c movie put the Gemini killer in father Karrass body to torment him.

Yeah - Pazuzu is very much active in the film, only behind the scenes (except during the exorcism) - he pulls the Gemini's strings to some extent.

Truly great film. And I appreciate that it took it's time, much like the first one.

They are saying that *audiences* dont find it scary. Audiences have been conditioned by modern, dumb horror movies that something like the exorcist isnt scary to them.

Jim Carrey ?

I don't understand the accolades for this move,.I thought the set design was garbage,.Over-acting all over the place, and it didn't seem at all scary,.Some decent dialogue but it looked like a TV cop show from the 1980's,..George C. Scott better in a movie called Hardcore

Jason Miller deserves more recognition for his performance in the film.

to me this feels like a movie that a lot of people could relate to at a time like this; battling to keep hope in a time where there's so much evil testing and wearing us down and making everyone so jaded and cynical

Well you're not wrong. Sadly, I just don't think most people would make the connection and draw a parallel.
